Built to replace an off-the-shelf media centre that had grown awkward, this catalogues movies, television, music and personal video from the operator's own drives and plays them back without a subscription, an account, or anything leaving the machine.
The part that earned its keep was duplicate detection. A library assembled over years accumulates the same film three times under three names, and finding those by hand is a weekend. It also handles the things a large collection actually runs into: inconsistent naming, missing metadata, and episodes filed in the wrong season.
